IBU NEW Tamiya compatible board for RX18

Hello everybody,
I want ot introduce to our fellow tankers from Netherland a new electronic board to give our Heng Long tanks a full IR compatibility with Tamiya battle system. It has been called I.B.U., for Italian Battle Unit

The IBU board has been designed, developed and producted in Italy by our fellow rc club (http://www.CarriRC.com) member Ivano 'Scooter' Bretti, with consulence by myself (Borealis).



I.B.U. CHARACTERISTICS

- FULL Plug & play for Heng Long tanks with RX18 board and IR system

- Fully compatible with Tamiya Battle System and other compatible systems (e.g. DBC, El-mod, etc.): tank weight setting, tank speed reduction, pre-assembled apple leds, loading times simulation.

- Direct control of Tamiya recoil unit or standard servo (selectable)

- Direct control of a flash led

- Additional exclusive feature: tank repairing (recovery tank setting) through proprietary code with sound and light effects, and the ability to limit the IR range of the emitter

- Additional battle sounds played by sound module (shoot, reload, hit, destroyed, rebirth, repairing) customizable by uploading on supplied micro SD card

- Tank recoil removal (IBU with sound module) and shooting while moving

- Two versions available: with or withour sound module

- Support (open collector) for external relay (operated on tank destruction) to simulate, e.g., smoke coming from a destroyed tank

- 'Standalone' installation as a fixed gun emplacement is possible, with manual or remote (through standard receiver) control


- Can be adapted also to different brands of vehicles such as Matorro, Torro or non-tracked vehicles

- Software setting upon Heng Long stock mechanics and electronics, to retain mobility of damaged vehicles also on heavy ground. With 3:1 or 5:1 gearboxes the tank gains more torque and lower top speed.

- Software updates can be programmed by the manufacturer

- Can be used with original Tamiya or Impact TBU through (optional) adapter cable

- Can be used with a DBU (DBC receiver apple) by soldering the TBU adapter cable to a serial interface

- Protection against overcurrents and polarity inversion

- Minefield Simulator support for upcoming (optional) magnetic sensor kit and landmines

- Heng Long stock barrel recoil direct control and inhibition during reloading time

Both an ITALIAN and ENGLISH language Use and Installation Manual has been edited and is available for e-mail delivery as PDF attachment upon request (pdf size about 4.3 MB).

Updated the link above to the new issue 1.2 of the manual in English language


Main change is in the installation procedure, page 12, since we found that Heng Long does not always assemble the 8-wire cable connecting the RX18 to the upper hull the same way.
Sometimes the wire order is completely inverted, and they just solder all the connectors on the hull plug accordingly.

This requires to use the original Heng Long cable bewteen the I.B.U. and the upper hull, and the 8-wire cable supplied with the I.B.U. to connect the RX18 and the I.B.U. itself.

However, connecting a wrongly assembled cable should not harm any of the boards, just causing troubles to all the upper hull functions (gun not shooting, turret not rotating, lights switched off, etc.).

Bij mijn zoektocht naar een BU kwam ik dit systeem tegen,vreemd genoeg zijn er amper reakties?? Ik zag ook dat RC tank.de dit ook verkoopt.En als een Duitser een buitenlands systeem verkoopt kan het eigenlijk niet slecht zijn denk ik.
Voor mij lijkt dit ideaal te zijn omdat het met een rx18 van HL kan werken én met Tamyia én met Elmod.
Is hier niemand die hier ervaring mee heeft?

A fixed and automated repair workshop for tanks, using an Italian Battle Unit and a pressure plate to trigger it: any damaged tank entering the workshop is automatically restored to full health.

I have 2 questions do

1* I have a maultier
can it be possible for it to be knocked out with this system
if so then what unit is needed

2* I am planing an mercedes with flak4 ling
can I use a unit from you to make it battle ready?

Hello,
I would say yes to both questions.
Just keep the battery voltage at maximum 9.6V for safety, if possible. 12V might work, though.

If you don't want additional sounds (hit, destroyed) you can mount the 'L' version on the Maultier. It is the board without the additional sound module.
Since the IBU can control a relay when the vehicle is destroyed, you can add a generator which turns on to simulate the vehicle burning.

For the flak 4ling I would suggest the 'F' version, if you don't have a way already to simulate the flak gun sound. It is the board with sound module and micro SD card, therefore you can upload a flak sound on the card instead of the tank guns sounds.

So no problem there
Knocking a maultier out and starting a smoke generator is a nice idea
I can do that when rivising the maultier with a new drive train

I have a flak module but if you can peogram it with 1 (like elmod) than that would be better
Do you have a sound database for this?

Several sounds are supplied on the microSD card sold with the board, but they all refer to German, Soviet or American tanks.

On the SD Card is also a conversion software which allows to convert any wave or MP3 sound into the AD4 format suitable for the IBU, therefore you can get any El-mod sound (such as the M16 quad 50.cal gun) and put it into the IBU.

Of course, should you have any problem in doing it yourself, we will assist you, or prepare the soundset right away and send it by email.
